Requirements of the brief

You work for an in-house print production company within an advertising agency. You have been given the task of producing a campaign of four full-page magazine adverts to promote a new takeaway food delivery service.
Summary of brief requirements:
Statement of Intent (approx.
350 words
).
Magazine adverts: The client has insisted that each advert must have a different main image, with at least two different settings and at least two different models used across the four adverts.
Location of adverts: The adverts are to be placed in regional magazines and the content should reflect the location.
Client target audience: 16–25, mass market, male and female demographic in a defined geographical region.
This new takeaway food delivery service – YourFood – wants to be defined by its regional and youthful brand identity4.
All four adverts must contribute to a strong and consistent brand identity, using the same slogan/tagline.
The adverts should use techniques – such as intertextuality, generic hybridity, humour or emotional appeal – that engage the target audience and make the adverts memorable.
Your finished realisations of the four adverts must be presented as A4 prints, with
the image scaled down as necessary to preserve the correct magazine page ratio.
Your magazine adverts must adhere to the rules of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA):


The production must include (as a minimum):
At least four different main images. All images must be original across the four adverts to fit the brand identity and the conventions of magazine adverts.
Editing of adverts (including photos, text, graphics, typography and layout) to fit the brand identity and the conventions of magazine adverts.
At least two different settings (this may be the same location with a significantly different use of mise-en-scène and/or lighting or two different locations).
At least two characters representing at least two different social groups across the four adverts.
Written text including product name and a slogan/tagline that expresses the brand identity.
Appropriate consideration of where the adverts will be displayed.
Adherence to the rules of the ASA.

1st attempt
In my first attempt at creating my logo design i used basic techniques such as using a variety of font and colours to get used to the software. Different types of font such as 'brush script' and 'century school book' to get different vibes from each logo font.
Basic colours like red, black and blue where also used.

Task one define your audience using the following AUDIENCE SEGMENTATION model  (20 minutes)
Socio economic: GEARS
 Gender - My adverts with have different gender groups primarily together as opposed to mixed I.E females will be with other females and males will be with other males.

 Ethnicity - A mixed of black and white girls and boys will be used in my adverts.

 Age - Young adult models will be the primary use for models to appeal to the age criteria.

 Region 9 regional identity - Locations such as school cafeteria, doorstep, restaurants and shops will be used.

 Socio-Economic - Models will be wearing informal attire.

For each part of the acronym state what will be in the advert (in terms of media language/representation) to attract your audience, use the brief to help establish the target audience profile




Task two define your audience using the 4 C’s segmentation model, select one of the above categories and highlight how your audience might be attracted to the advert (give an example in terms of the media language of the mock up designs).  (15 minutes)

Task 3: construct the questions for the survey

This tells me that most of my audience are within my target audience range.



This tells me that most of my audience might be more male than female.



This tells me that my adverts should appeal more to the black and white demographic.




This lets me know that 80% of the people who surveyed this fit within the maain demographic.




This information helped me finalise the type of tone i was aiming for when completing my adverts. 65% of people wanted to see an informal advert.



I asked audiences which logo they prefered.


I then used this result to determine my final logo design to use in my final adverts.

Do these adverts represent Essex in any way? if so how?
I recieved many responses to this question, some being:


 These responses encouraged me to use more of a food focused form of advertising as well as incorperate the essex culture through verbal ques.


These responses made me realise i must add more visual essex cultural prints in my adverts.

I changed my final adverts accordingly.


Do you believe there should be more of a focus on food or the social aspect of takeaway food? and why.

I wasnt sure of which type of advertisment techniques to base my advertisments on as i could have used a more social approach which would include a younger models, so asking this question would allow me to determine what would best be suitable for the audience i aim aiming to target.

This location was chosen as i intended to have a model be half way through eating a breakfast like item in a cafe like environment to show the versatility of the type of food the company delivers.


In this location shot, my intentions was to incorporate a more socialised advert with school girls and boys all enjoying company and food to appeal to the main target audience.

For this location shot i wanted one of my adverts to be based in a home environment as this is the traditional location fast food that been delivered is often eaten.I was planning to use no models for this advert and focus purely on the food to really appeal to the people who are looking for a nice meal as oppose to other factors of delivery services.

Final evaluation 
In my print media advertisements i used the ability of repeating the word 'your' on my strap-line because the psychology of repetition, for this particular word, emphasises the notion of the food belonging to the customer before they even purchase it as well as increasing the chance of consumers remembering the brand name as the strap line ends with 'your food' which is the name of the company. This is also an example of minor exaggeration to get the point across to customers more clearly. The repetition is also important as it adds rhythm to the strap-line as rhythm is one of the most powerful of pleasures, and when the people feel a pleasurable rhythm they subconsciously hope it will continue, increasing chance of repeat purchase.
I also utilised the advertisement strategies of incorporating social and youth appeal in my advertisements. I achieved this, hopefully by having young models in a social environment as oppose to a secluded environment where take away foods are primarily eaten. This is perfect for my target audience that i was aiming for which is 16 - 25 year olds from Essex as in today's society, social media and interactions play a huge role in day to day life especially for young people so these advertisements have caught a lot of young peoples attentions at first glance. 

Being based in Essex, a lot of the stereotypes associated with this area are either visual or behavioural, so plan on utilising non offensively to appeal more to my target audience which is 16-25 year olds in the Essex region. i achieved this by using the 'Essex slang' and phrases in my tag-line such as 'oh shut up' and 'peng'. This made the advertisements more relatable to my audience meaning they where more likely to be entertained by the advert. i had a model that fits the description of a classic Essex female where a lot of make up which is, over tanned and has a lot of makeup and is preferably blonde.

For my advertisements, I used Photoshop to edit the advertisements and make them the most appealing to the target audience. I had to change the colours, font and lighting to better make the images pop as well as visually appealing. I designed the logo, tag-line and bottle design separately and then i brought them all together to create my final advertisement design. All 4 of my advertisement are linked together being published Online to reach a wider audience and also some of the target audience. I could also use Twitter and Facebook to appeal to the target audience.

I decided to use colours like white and orange because, white stands and pops out to the naked eye and orange evokes hunger and food psychologically immediately associating it with food, this will hopefully make those buying the food think it is of good quality. I also used 'Rockwell Extra Bold' as my font as it is quite childish and bubbly which should appeal to my younger audience as well as adding to the informal aspect of the business as Essex is seen as quite informal due to stereotypes developed from shows such as 'TOWIE'. For the images of the product, I had to shoot them in a location that appeals to the target audience such as an urban landscapes within an Essex environment or in populated areas such as restaurants or cafe to further promote the social aspect of delivery services. It is an urban place that when seen, the target audience (both male and female) may be interested in the product. I also went out and collected my own primary research data on a wide and diverse selection of people who either live in or outside of Essex to better understand what might appeal to them in an advert meant for them. 
I then converted my 20 survey results into graphs and used this information to better determine the types of advertisements i was going to make.
